BLOOMINGTON — CrossFit Bloomington-Normal and the Bloomington-Normal Athlete Factory will serve as host for a fundraiser workout on April 11 to benefit the family of Normal Community High School senior baseball player Jake Wegner, who is battling cancer.
Wegner, 18, trained at the Athlete Factory before being diagnosed recently with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system. He has undergone surgery to remove a 10-pound tumor.
The event seeks to raise money to help with Wegner’s medical expenses. A donation of $10 or more will allow participants to perform the WEGS WOD (Workout of the Day) with heats running every 15 minutes beginning at 9:30 a.m. No preregistration is required.
The workout will include 1 power clean lift, 7 pull-ups, 8 ball slams and 10 push-ups. The 1 represents the fact Wegner is a leadoff hitter, the 7 is his uniform number, the 8 is his position in the outfield (center field) and the 10 represents the size of the tumor that was removed from the top of his spleen.
There also will be a potluck meal following the workout so participants are encouraged to bring a dish to pass.
CrossFit Bloomington-Normal and the Athlete Factory are located at 401 Bronco Drive, Unit D, Bloomington. For more information, go to www.crossfitbn.com or call 309-662-5678.
