Hi there! My name is Zac Turner and I am our resident Nutrition Coach at CFBN and The Athlete Factory. My interest in training and nutrition began at an early age, and over the years it has grown into my passion. Growing up, losing loved ones took its toll on me and I often found comfort in food. By the time I was 8 years old my poor eating habits (soda, chips, candy, fast food, etc.) had already started taking their toll. I found myself cutting weight to wrestle at a whopping 130lbs….in 3rd grade!
As an adolescent, I began training and changed my eating, and after seeing results, I was hooked. My desire to learn never seemed to slow, and at the age of 15, I decided to compete in bodybuilding. This forever changed my approach to eating and once my family/friends saw the changes I made with hard work and sacrifice, I became the go-to guy when people wanted to get in shape. That’s when I learned that my true passion is inspiring others and helping them become the best version of themselves.
One thing I’ve learned working with clients over the last decade, is that everyone is different and there is no one set way to achieve the results you desire. In an attempt to provide as unique and customizable nutrition experience as you’ll find anywhere, we’ll work together to develop a program that takes into consideration your preferences and lifestyle. Instead of providing blanket recommendations to my clients, I do my best to understand their lifestyle/goals and work our plan into that framework.
I’ve worked with clients spanning all walks of life. Some with experience ‘dieting’, others with very little nutrition knowledge, some with experience training/working out, others with none and no intention of starting. From soccer moms to athletes to service men/women and the elderly, I enjoy working with people from every demographic, and I relish the opportunity to help you succeed!
Talk to you soon!
Where do I even begin when it comes to the praises I have for working with Zac? Let me start by saying this: I had always known I could do better when it came to the way I was eating. For me my extremely low protein, high carb, starchy diet seemed to be acceptable as I was able to eat that way and not gain any weight. That being said, I found myself sick all of the time, was consistently tired and quite honestly did not have much energy from day to day. Here is where a simple, quick consult with Zac completely set me on a new path for myself!
After reviewing a food log I kept for three days, Zac sat down with some fantastic feedback and most importantly asked first and foremost what my goals would be if I chose to work further with him. I was immediately impressed by his sincerity regarding how I felt, what changes I wanted to see and how those changes were going to happen working with him as my coach. The changes he had me make were small and doable but the results I began to see were mighty. The best part? All of the changes he had me make have been sustainable. Within a couple of weeks (and continued coaching from Zac), I could not believe how wonderful I felt!
I just turned 30, and I can wholeheartedly say I do not remember ever feeling as well as I do now. I cannot tell you the last time I was sick, and my energy is fantastic (the physical changes I have seen are an added bonus)! I have Zac (and my trainer, Donovan, over at the Athlete Factory) to thank for the way I feel. Zac holds me accountable, yet has a way of making all of his feedback encouraging. If I gain a couple of pounds or panic after a lousy eating day, Zac is the first to remind me that increased weight could mean muscle gain and food wise I have tomorrow to do better. He’s a consistent voice telling me I can reach my goals if I just believe in what I am trying to accomplish. I encourage anyone who wants to feel (and look) better to spend time working with Zac. He’s exactly the kind of coach a person needs to set herself/himself on a new, wonderful path to a healthy nutritional life!
What has your experience working with Zac been like? I’ve had a great experience working with Zac. I trust him implicitly. I started at 248 lbs and ~21% body fat. I am now at 217 lbs and 12.8% body fat, while gaining about a pound of muscle. I feel great!
How has this diet been different/better than others you’ve tried? I am never hungry, and I get to eat a ton of great food! It’s a very sustainable approach. I don’t focus on the things I can’t have, because there are so many great things I can have. It may sound cliche, but it really was a lifestyle change as opposed to a diet. I allow myself to indulge in at least one cheat meal a week. I feel like it keeps me on track.
What are the short and long term goals you’re going to accomplish? My short term goal was to lose 20 lbs. My long term goal is to maintain my current weight while losing roughly another 2% body fat.
What changes have you noticed in your physique/life since beginning your program? My wife is pretty handsy since I’ve lost the weight and toned up 🙂 I enjoy the little things. I am more mobile when playing with my kids, sleep better at night, and snore less.
Would you recommend working with Zac to your family/friends? I have already sent others to Zac. I want them to experience the same success I have enjoyed.

I have always been an active person, from playing sports all through high school to doing various cardio workouts up until I joined CFBN. I always had a hard time putting and keeping muscle on my body. So my goal starting crossfit was to add lean muscle to my body. Roughly the first six months at CFBN I had not changed my diet at all. My ideas of a healthy meal were to throw a Lean Cuisine into the microwave and try to eat as few carbs as possible. I found myself becoming dizzy during the workouts, and not really gaining the muscle I had desired. I then talked with Zac about helping me with my goals and changing my diet.
Since Zac has been my nutrition coach, I have seen more results and felt better and stronger in my workouts. From the beginning he would look at my daily food log, and during that first meeting I was taken by surprise when he almost doubled my caloric intake. He tracks my food and also guides me on how much fat, carbs and proteins I should be eating in a day. As time went on and I began to add more muscle mass, he would then adjust the calories and other aspects of my nutrition intake. He is also great with food ideas and recipes that keep it exciting and me motivated. Every time we meet, he writes me up a new meal plan with example meals and snacks.
Within the last two months I have noticed the most difference, not only in my body, but also my performance in the gym. He has taught me so much and actually explains why my body needs certain types of foods and what affects it has on my physique. I still feel there is much room for improvement, but could not have gotten where I am today without a change in my diet and without the guidance and support from Zac : )

What has your experience working with Zac been like? In short, my experience with Zac has been nothing but pleasant. Fitness is intimidating enough and you would like to work with somebody who could break it down in a way that shows that your goals are achievable and who will encourage you on the path of success, no matter how difficult. Zac is no longer my trainer, but my friend.
How has this diet been different/better than others you’ve tried? It is quite better. The way that Zac explained it was never in the sense of a diet, as that usually has a negative connotation attached to it. Zac showed me how this was the correct way to provide my body with the fuel it needs and promote wellness. Eating well seems like a difficult task but Zac keeps it simple. He has expanded my understanding of nutrition, not just telling me what to eat. He has shown me why eating well should not be a chore, but something we embrace happily as our well-being is dependent on it.
What are the short and long term goals you’re going to accomplish? Short-term goals included building muscle where I had none and work out more regularly. My long term goals are to maintain the consistency of my work outs, proper day to day nutrition, and to embrace fitness as a lifestyle not just an activity.
What changes have you noticed in your physique/life since beginning your program? I began the program weighing in at 148 pounds with no real muscle and poor strength. I now weigh 167, most of which is lean muscle. I look healthy and trim and my strength is amazing compared to where I was. Amazing what a year can do.
Would you recommend working with Zac to your family/friends? Absolutely I would. Zac has been and continues to be a positive influence on my life. Not just because what he has given me, but because of the person he is.
